Tikal is located in Guatemala in the centre of the department of Peten; 50 miles northwest of the Belizean border. The tour sets off from Mayawalk headquarters in San Ignacio at 6:30am in our private air-conditioned vehicle to the Guatemalan border, where all affairs are taken care of by our licensed guide. We then leave the border and cross into Guatemala. En route to Tikal we stop at El Remate to take pictures of the beautiful immense blue lagoon. After a quick stop at a local arts and crafts gift shop, we proceed to Tikal, where we have lunch at one of the onsite restaurants before beginning our tour.
At the site, our guide will fully educate you on the history, archaeology and cultural significance of Tikal. After viewing main structures and stelae, we explore the comprehensive site museum. We then return to San Ignacio at 5pm fter a full day of site exploration.
Note: No weight or age limit for this tour. Must have sufficient mobility and strength to hike & climb the temples.
Things to bring: Passport, Extra change of clothes, water, snacks, day pack, insect repellant, hiking shoes.
What to wear: Comfortable clothing that you can hike in.
